Mongolia: Bayankhongor: Dustin and Mary Baker PDF Print E-mail
Dustin, Mary & Kase

Dustin and Mary minister in Bayankhongor, Mongolia. They work with Joint Christian Services International (JCS) in Bayankhongor, Mongolia.

Dustin is also working with a new NGO (non-government organization) that is a spin off of JCS called FARM. This organization is working to improve and help with food security here in Mongolia. There are many people here who do not have enough to eat or enough nutrition and we are trying to help with that in teaching people about gardening and nutrition. Mary is a stay at home mom and home school teacher to Kase.

Baker Mongolia Update           May 2009
Spring Greetings:
We have been very much enjoying the spring weather most days lately.  There has been a few of those “watch the Gobi Desert blow by” kind of wind storms though to remind us that it is spring! We have been able to get some plants started in the cold frames and inside and are pretty excited about getting the garden going again.  Kase is the most excited I think.  He is ready for the harvest already though.  We all have fun with the garden, and enjoy the harvest!
 Project:
Dustin has been very busy with the FARM projects this past month.  He has spent a lot of time working in the garage on welding and fixing and building equipment from bits of nothing to make this project work.  Some of the equipment available here, needs to be fixed or reworked before it can be used, even if bought new.  A box we had shipped from the states with Harrow Tines in it arrived and the homemade harrow looked and worked really well!  This has also been a time of growth for Dustin as he is training and instruction and developing people as well as a project and that has gone well.
Church in Bayankhongor:
Dustin has mostly been able to continue his leadership training meetings with the church leaders and is enjoying being able to interact with and help these leaders. The present YWAM DTS School is on outreach right now.  Please keep them in your prayers as they work together as a team where God has called them right now. Please also be in prayer for a new church plant in one of our near-by towns.  A couple with three young kids from the church we work with here in BH has moved out to a town about 60 km from BH to help plant a church there.  It has been tough for them getting started out there, but things are going well and they had nine people for church the first Sunday!  It has been neat for us as we have had the opportunity to encourage them as they go out and minister as missionaries to their own people.
Visitors & Team:

We had some visitors this month and we can tell that summer is gearing up!  Melissa White came with a team from Vet Net; a Christian Vet organization here in Mongolia.  She was very kind and found us a cute puppy as well.  Tenger is the name of our new little Mongolian herding dog pup.  Kase & she have a lot of fun playing and romping around the yard.  She is growing very fast!

We also enjoyed a visit from a JCS team of folks who came to attend the Annual General Meeting and made a side trip to see more of BH. These are people who potentially could recruit team members here to BH and we enjoyed their visit. Anne Biro came and stayed with us for a week as well.  She was doing some teaching here in several schools about pregnancy and the stages of how a baby develops.  She had some great video footage of ultrasounds and a 1cm long fetus and showing the heartbeat already.  Many of those she talked with had never seen this and were shocked.  It was a very interesting presentation that got a lot of people thinking.   Summer is often quite a busy time for visitors, and this year is not going to be an exception to that.  One couple on our team is building a house this summer and that is adding some visitors as they have a team coming to help with that.  Parents of team members, friends and other JCS-ers are also in the mix of summer visitors.  It should be exciting.
A glimpse of life in Mongolia:
I was laughing today at a funny conversation I was having with our water guy – the guy who brings our water with his horse cart.  I wanted him to fill our large outside tank that we use for watering the garden.  This takes two full horse carts to fill.  The horse carts just gravity feed out water and I was trying to figure a way to make the cart taller so that we could get the tank full as the tank is a little taller than the cart.  So, my idea was that I could take some of the old tires that we have stacked around Kase’s sand pile (to keep down the Gobi effect) and lay them flat then drive the cart wheels up on them.  But the cart driver thought that I was offering him some of these tires for his cart.  So he looked them over and decided that one was better than one of his and so just loaded it on the back of his cart.  One of his tires was pretty bald, and this one still had tread, so seemed natural to me and not really a problem, just funny!  I still am not quite sure how we misunderstood each other so much, but it was good for a laugh.  I guess we still have a ways to go in our Mongolian language until we are fluent.
Finances:
We really appreciate all of you that support us and wouldn’t be able to do all that God has allowed us without you.  Over the last several months, we have felt the economic downturn effect as well.  Due to this fact we find ourselves at a point where we need to boost our support by about $500 a month to meet our needs.  Thank you once more, for your valuable contribution to His work in Mongolia.
Prayer Requests:
-           Please continue to pray for our health, both physically and spiritually. We continue to be blessed with good health and feel that this is in large part due to your prayers!-           Please continue your prayers for our traveling safety.  -           Pray for the young churches in Bayankhongor that they would continue to grow in faith, be solidly founded in the Word and be light and salt in their communities. Eph 1:16-19-           For the staff of FARM as we plan and prepare for this year’s new projects and locations. FARM is working in one new location, starting two new projects, a Hay growing and a Shelter belt project and is working on a strategic plan for the next 3 to 5 years.   Blessings from Mongolia – Dustin, Mary & Kase Baker  http://servantsofall.org/  To join our financial team: Please send checks made to Living Faith Fellowship (Memo “Mongolia Missions”) to:Living Faith Fellowship1035 SW Grand Ave.
